[it's a beautiful day. the stores are playing cheery christmas music, the decorations are everywhere, and a layer of snow makes everything look a little magical. people chat to each other as they walk around--

and in the background, people are... yelling? the noise is getting closer. someone yells as cold snow goes down their neck.

then, out of nowhere, a bigass gravity-enhanced snowball comes flying.

in chuuya's defense, he didn't expect anyone's head to actually be at that height, but- heads up, howard.]

[He really should've been more careful. Howard hears the voices, is aware that the common fun pastime of this cold season is to pelt each other with snowballs, and yet, like some teenager who is blissfully ignorant of the fact they're not invincible, Howard doesn't even give a thought to the fact that he might be embroiled in snow warfare anytime soon.]

[Which is why he looks up at the exactly wrong moment and is absolutely perplexed when he sees a large snowball flying right at his face.]

[The larger they are, the harder they fall - and so, like some kind of Goliath, Howard gets cartoonishly knocked on his back as the snowball makes impact.]

[He'll just lie here for a moment in shock. RIP, Howard. He died as he lived: being too slow to live properly.]

been better. had some ups and downs in the last couple of weeks. more or less alright

[ 'cause that is a very special day, indeed

while he's not going to try to monopolize his entire day—howard has places to be and people to see, after all (it is also a monday)—for the time they're together for it, it's definitely a "try to spoil the shit out of the bf" day. this includes,

• bfast in bed. of course, c'mon. chocolate chip pancakes; hot chocolate, too, if coffee isn't the immediate go-to.

• dragging him out to a nicer restaurant at some point— he's paying, he won't take no for an answer, etc.

• a bouquet of violets and other assorted flowers, with also a few rosebuds he also felt compelled to sneak into there.

• a sappy card, probably given towards the end of the day. and there's a separate note in it, too: it's— just short of gushy, reiterating all the ways that howard means that much to him, let him count the ways in which he's perfect, and how lucky he is to have him as a boyfriend. john must've done something right along the way to be this fortunate, after all. it might be A Lot™, yes, but he still means every word of it. ... there's a notably raunchy pick-up line in there somewhere, too.

• this little thing. ... the plant itself is fairly hardy. he believes in howard's capabilities for keeping it alive.

• and of course, it's not a proper bday without cake later: it's a smaller chocolate one, and he's no pro, but it might be worth a gold star for effort.
